The Evolution of Video Gaming (Part 5)

Video gaming changed from decade to decade. The 1990's is where a 32 bit technology gaming system was first released. The most popular video gaming console of its time and that marked a new era for video gaming was Sony's PlayStation. PlayStation was released in 1995. This was the first 3 dimensional gaming system and was the start to the end of 2-D technology. Another difference in the PlayStation is it's use on CD-ROMs, unlike the traditional cartridges that were used in previous gaming consoles. Electronic Arts or EA took advantage of the use of the CD-ROM technology and remained dominant in the sporting games industry. Popular games consisted of Resident Evil, Gran Turismo, Tekken, Crash Bandicoot, and Metal Gear Solid. These games became the most popular of their time and really helped the Sony PlayStation's popularity.

I had a Sony Playstation when I was younger. I didn't have it when it was originally released but in the early 2000's. My personal favorite game was Tony Hawk Pro Skater. I really enjoyed this game and I often spent constant hours playing my little fingers out! Although, the Tony Hawk series has since developed more and has came out with newer versions of the Tony Hawk game for different gaming consoles, the original Tony Hawk Pro Skater would have to be my favorite game for PlayStation. I have played quite a few video games in my time and this may even be one of my all-time favorites!

After the release of Sony PlayStation, Nintendo felt the need to make a competitive product to compete with the Sony Playstation. The product was released just one year after the Sony PlayStation. Learn more about this gaming console in Part 6 of The Evolution of Video Gaming!
