Now is the time to introduce the different kinds of gamers. The first kind that I will list is the cosplayer. What is the cosplayer, you might ask? A cosplayer is a gamer (or just a big fan of something) who goes to conventions and dresses as his/her favorite videogame character. Many of these favorites are from japanese franchises, such as Square Enix's Final Fantasy series (my personal favorite). There are many different games to cosplay from, but I am going to just list the ones created by Square Enix. The more popular characters to dress up as are ones like Tidus, Auron, Sephiroth, Cloud, Vincent, Leon, Sora, Riku, and Roxas. Of course there are many others, but those are the more popular ones that I can think of. Some of the costumes are hand-made, and some are bought from companies that make cosplay costumes for conventions, halloween, etc. Costumes can look very professional, just like from the games, or it can look like crap, where you're thinking, "Why'd they even come here with that?" It's not just the costume that counts, it's the person behind it that also matters. For instance, if a character in a videogame is really skinny, it seems that half the cosplayers for that character are 200+ pounds! Which can seem even worse if that character doesn't wear a shirt or the person is as hairy as a werewolf (sorry for the mental image). If women come to the conventions, then some of them dress up as some of the men in the japanese games, because in some japanese games, the men are somewhat girly looking. I'd prefer if men just dressed as male characters, and women just dressed as female characters. But it's their costume, so they gotta do what they gotta do. Gamers like games, and gamers like the characters in the games, so they dress up as them to make themselves feel cool. Plus, it reminds them of all the cool things that they did on the videogame that character came from, so that's why cosplayers exist. At least, that's what I think...
