The Evolution of Video Gaming (Part 9)

As the rivalry between Nintendo and Sony continued, another company decided that it would join in on the action. This company was big in technology and had been around in the computer world for quite some time. In case you haven't already figured out what I'm talking about, it's Microsoft. Microsoft made it first appearance in the video gaming world by releasing the XBox in 2001 into the video game console world. Since Microsoft was known for its computers and had developed well in the technology for a computer, the use of computer technology was put into the XBox. This allowed for greater performance compared to the other 128 bit technology systems such as the Sony PlayStation and the Nintendo Game Cube. Even with this new technology released into the video gaming world, sales remained to be behind the PlayStation 2 as it was the most popular of its time.

One thing that separates the XBox from all other video gaming systems would be the game that it is most known for. That would be Halo. Halo can only be played on an XBox and was soon the most popular game in America. But like I said, even with the great popularity of Halo, it was unable to match up to the success the PlayStation 2 had. However, Halo became one of the most popular video game titles in history. Halo is still one of the most played games in the video gaming world to this day. XBox was indeed a great starting console for Microsoft. Although it did not have the highest success that Microsoft was used to, that would eventually change in the future. Stay tuned in later blogs to hear more about Microsoft and its battle to the top of the video gaming world.
