Grandma's Boy???

I don't know how many of you have seen the movie "Grandma's Boy", but it is a prime example of video gamers have NO LIFE. The main character in the movie gets paid to "test" video games out! So all day he just plays video games and even when he goes to his so called work, he plays even more video games! The main character Alex (played by Allen Covert), is in his 30's and is living and playing video games at his Grandma's house. Although this is quite a hilarious movie and I would really recommend watching it, it is a prime example of what I'd like to talk about today. Hardcore video gamers aren't just hardcore video gamers for a short period of time. It never stops! Once you get totally into your games, it's only going to get worse. It kinda cracks me up when I see some middle aged guy sitting in his living room playing video games. I understand if from time to time a father would like to play video games with his son but when a full grown adult is playing video games, that's just pathetic. It kinda makes me giggle a little bit! You see lots of movies and shows now days that involve some "older" guy playing video games. Such as "40 Year Old Virgin", "The Break Up", and of course "Grandma's Boy". There are also many, many more movies these days where video games are a huge part in one of the characters lives. Although I am a guy and love action movies with lots of blood and gore, from time to time I will watch a romantic comedy with my girlfriend. So in the movie, "The Break Up", Vince Vaughn plays one of the main characters and while he's going through this so called break up, there is a scene where he is playing the famous video game Madden Football. In the movie, he also plays an average guy in his 30's. In this particular scene, he is playing this video game against some 8 or 9 year old kid. They are using the headset gear so they can talk to each other while playing and Vince Vaughn is trying to trash talk to this little boy. It is quite a funny scene to watch. Hearing some older guy trash talk some little boy and making him cry to his mom. This just makes me laugh in general. When older guys like that are online sitting at home playing video games trash talking to little kids. So if you're having a hard time, just picture your dad or uncle or some other guy sitting in his basement at home with a headset on, playing a video game, and yelling into the headset, "How does that make you feel???" Now, I've kinda steered away from "Grandma's Boy", but video games can take over your life if you are not careful. So I'm telling you, go watch that movie and then tell me, is that how you want your life to be in 15 to 20 years from now? Would you wanna be living with your grandma, going to the same low paying job each day where all you do is play video games? In the movie it doesn't seem all the bad, but picture yourself trying to do that with your grandma. It wouldn't be too fun, well at least to me! But I'm not trying to tell you how to live your life either so if that's what you want to do then go for it! Just know that I'm going to be laughing at you! With all this said, I'm going to leave you with this thought.. there are older men out there and they could be the ones beating you at video games! Embarrassing huh?
Now, a little note to all of you who are reading this and thinking to yourself that this isn't going to happen to you! You can control when you stop playing and that you're not going to be playing video games for the rest of your life! This may be true for some of you, more like few of you! But still, you can decide! I'm just here to warn you that the video games can take over your life, so if you know someone that video games have taking over there life, get them help! You can take them to a VGA meeting. It's like an AA meeting but its "video gaming anonymous". I'd just thought that I'd try to be the first to warn you! So there you have it. And good luck to all of you gamers and to all of you none gamers... the choice is yours!

I have to totally agree with you. I am a big gamer myself, with Halo 3 and Call of Duty 4, but I know a few people whose lives have been ‘turned into’ a video game. My roommate would be a huge example of this; he sits in front of his computer 24/7 playing god knows what. I try my best to make him see the light of day. I have been dragging him out to the sports games, made him play throw a Frisbee, and have even force him out of the room to go to class. I hope I will be able to pull him away from his addiction so he does not keep responding in front of the monitor.
