11% of Gamer's Own Unopened Games

A recent study by the analyst group NPD shows that 11% of gamers have bought games that remain unopened. They say that the average video game collection consists of 48 titles based of a poll of 562 gamers who have bought games in the past six months. The survey also concluded that 88% of gamers store their games in their original cases, 8% store the game in a plastic sleeve and keep the case, and 5% keep the game and throw away the case. This shows manufacturers that most gamers see the packaging as part of the product and will not throw it away. Finally, NPD also found that when games are unwanted 54% of gamers will trade or sell a game, 24% will give the game to a friend, 17% store the disks, and 2% will throw away the game.

I will always keep my game in its original case and store games I don't play anymore. I am also definitely not part of the 11% that will have an unopened game lying around. As soon as I buy a new title I have it opened in about 5 minutes (I'm pretty impatient, haha). I hope the rest of you gamer's out there can also relate a little bit to the numbers in this survey.

Yeah, I open my games right away. I guess that makes me a little impatient too :). I don't understand why they don't open the games. I mean, that seems like an aweful waste of money, not playing your games. I guess they do it as a collectible, or maybe they haven't gotten around to playing that game yet. When I buy a game, I go home, take it from its case, and play it for 5 hours or more. This is a good entry. It's informative, yet condensed with your own opinion as well. Good job!

I have to agree with supervanman. When I get a new game, even before I get home, I have it open and am already looking over how to play. People who go to a story and buy a game but do not play it are idiots. I mean some of the new games that come out are extremely expensive and why would you spend $60 on a game and not enjoy it. It does not make sense to me. All my games are in their original boxes and nicely ordered on my TV stand. The original boxes make the game special and that is why I keep them.
