A lot of people have argued about whether the Guitar Hero series or Rock Band is better for the music video game experience. Guitar Hero which sparked the sensation of playing guitar as a video game has many loyal followers who prefer the originals graphics and music. Guitar Hero made a new type of video game which took a different type of skill which normal gamers sometimes lack; the ability to coordinate the rhythm of music and the buttons on a controller. Rock Band took the genre to a whole new level by adding the drum set periphial. Rock Band also added the microphone which had success in video games such as Singstar. Thus, create your own ‘rock band’ while you play.
I have noticed that the guitar parts in Guitar Hero are much more difficult than in Rock Band. However, the drum set parts are extremely difficult. It takes a lot of coordination to play, especially on the expert difficulty level. The singing parts are also difficult for many people on higher difficulty levels. Also, I have noticed that the visuals for guitar hero in terms of the notes of the music are much better. It is easier to see which notes you can hammer on or pull off (ways to play a guitar without strumming).
Guitar Hero World Tour is coming out soon. In the latest version they have added the drum and microphone periphials to compete with the multi-instrument Rock Band 2, which was released earlier this month. We will have to see which of the latest versions has the most success.
